“I just like to smile, smiling's my favorite” - Elf

There are two sides to the smile spectrum, those with RBF and those that cannot wipe their silly grin off their face.  Inspired by World Smile Day, learn more about why and how a smile can be the secret weapon to rocking your interview.

First impressions.
Interviews can be stressful for even the most experienced candidate, your smile leaves a lasting impression. When you first meet the interviewer, extend a firm handshake, look them in the eyes, and deliver a warm, genuine smile. Even if you are more terrified than the first time you gave a speech in public speaking in front of 100 other people, it exudes an air of confidence, openness, and enthusiasm. The interviewer wants to know that you are actually interested and motivated in their job.

Timing is everything.
Check your emotional intelligence skills and be cognisant of the appropriate times to smile. You don’t want to bear a goofy grin when the interviewer is talking about the organization’s high turnover rates but it is more than appropriate to rock a polished smile when you are humble bragging about that time you helped lead your team to a 45% profit increase in sales.

Taking it easy.
Believe it or not, the interviewer most likely also feels some level of formality and stiffness during the interview. Remember that this is part of their job and asking individuals routine questions isn’t always the most exciting job duty, no matter how much they love what they do. When you smile and relax, you give off a positive vibe and make the interview feel more like a conversation than a competition. That alone will set you apart from other candidates and put you in the running for being the top pick.
